A rainy wedding in Santiago de Compostela.
Who said that a rainy wedding day would be a disaster?
In Galicia, rain on a wedding day is normal, so much so, that we can even use it to our advantage.
This was a job with a difference. What happened here was that my role at this wedding was as an invited guest photographer. Who wouldn’t want to photograph the wedding of one of his best friends? Carlos or Charlie (as his friends call him) and Andrea got married on the fifth of April in a beautiful spot, with special Galician character. The Pousadas de Compostela complex in the tiny village of Sestelo is the ideal location to hold a civil ceremony in the fresh air, in 100% Galician style, not only thanks to its very Galician architecture and landscapes, but also due to its gastronomy. Pousadas de Compostela has a unique rural location characterised by its stone buildings and greenery. They also have a great plan B if it rains, as happened on this occasion.
This was a wedding with a difference, a wedding under the rain, very different to the work that we are used to in Andalusia. It was really the rain that turned this wedding into something different, the umbrellas, the raincoats, the wet stone, the racing from one building to another in search of cover.
We tried to make the most of the rain in this photo shoot, using Wellington boots, an umbrella and a black vintage bicycle. The Sar River, winding along its banks in Santiago de Compostela became our stage for this photo-shoot, inspired by the rain. The result was a very Galician wedding, full of seafood, rain and partying! We leave you with a selection of the best photos of Andrea and Charlie’s wedding in Pousadas de Santiago de Compostela.
